Getting locked out of your car can be a harrowing experience, particularly if you’re away from home and it’s dark outside. If this happens to you, it’s difficult not to feel slightly panicked at first as you try to figure out the best course of action to take. If you’ve accidentally left the keys on the seat or in the ignition and then inadvertently locked your car without realising, what on earth are you going to do? While it’s tempting to smash the window to regain entry, this really should be avoided and only done as a very last resort and only when it’s an extreme emergency. You might also be tempted to try and either force the window down or use whatever you can think of to put in the lock but again, this isn’t recommended. Any attempts you make are likely to result in some form of damage to the lock or window mechanism. Electric windows are also more expensive to fix, particularly if the electric motor gets damaged in the process.

Specialist tools

In almost all cases, specialist electronic devices and/or lock picking tools are needed to regain access to a locked vehicle without damaging it and many of these are only available to trained locksmiths who also have the knowledge and skill required to use them. If you’re facing a vehicle lockout, it really does pay to get in touch with a professional straight away. This way, you can at least get a free quote of how much it’ll cost and the time it’ll take to get to your location. You can always so no and make other plans if you feel it’s too expensive or will take too long. However, it’s likely to be cheaper and quicker than you think. We attend vehicle lockout scenarios on a weekly basis so for us, this is all in a normal day’s work. It also doesn’t take too long either. With virtually all the emergency callouts we attend, we have the car unlocked in a matter of minutes – and with no damage to the vehicle.

Day or night

It also doesn’t matter what time of the day or night it is and we realise it’s always reassuring for clients when they know we operate Monday to Sunday, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. We also cover areas further afield from our base in Northfleet, Kent. We’re happy to travel to Essex, Sussex, Surrey, Central London and all of the Home Counties to attend emergency vehicle lockouts, even if it is 3 am!

On the spot car key replacement

You could also be locked out because you’ve lost or broken the car key or fob. Even if this is the case, as long as we know the make and model, we can bring all the tools and equipment we need to cut you a new one on the spot. We’ll also be able to program it to the vehicle and its immobiliser too. So, if you’ve locked yourself out of your car and have stumbled upon this post and are within the geographical area we cover (London and the Home Counties), get in touch with Keys 4 Cars for immediate emergency assistance.
